If you placed 10 of our club golfers in a lineon a driving range, I would be able to tell youwhat ability they were by the way that theyaddress the ball. The grip, ball position andposture would be a huge indicator of what theirgolfing abilities are. Creating good angles willallow the golf swing to work at its fullpotential.
Here are a few facts that can affect your golfgame.
Firstly, proper posture and foot placementallows you to maintain your balance throughoutthe swing. All great players are balanced fromaddress to the finish, which allows them to hitthe ball squarely in the centre of the clubface.Balance is the key to consistent ball strikingand a good setup allows you to remain in balancewhen swinging.
Second, a good setup helps you create power andcontrol the direction of the shot. Key pre-swingelements such as ball position and bodyalignment create the conditions that lead tocontrol. The body angles that you create ataddress directly influence the path and angle onwhich you swing the club. They influence theactual in-swing body positions and movements;therefore your setup directly affects allelements of the swing.
Finally, all great players pre-set themselves inpositions that they try to create at impact. Inother words, your golf setup puts you inpositions of advantage, making a fundamentallysound swing possible. Your swing evolves fromyour setup and if you want to achieve a goodimpact position, you can simply set up withimpact in mind.
Here are examples of good and poor posture.
As you can see in the backswing photo, the angleis maintained and we have a fantastic positionat the top of the backswing. In the beforephoto, the angles aren't maintained and theshoulder turn and position at the top of thebackswing are poor. Huge improvements by just aposture change.
