This week I was asked a question by a memberregarding the make-up of a driver.
"Why do I hit my irons straight, but hit aslice with the woods and driver?"
The answer is a fairly simple one. Firstly, the more spin produced on a shot willproduce more shape on the ball. An averagegolfer would produce around 60mph club headspeed with an iron. The driver will the sameswing would produce around 80mph of clubhead speed. The more speed, the more spin.
Because the club is longer, the same swingwill produce a different path than with aniron. This is because the club head isfurther away from you. A square swing pathwith an iron will produce a slightlyout-to-in path with the longer clubs. Youmay find that the strike comes slightly outthe heel of the club.
So my advice would be: Try and get the feelof a more out-to-in swing path. It will feellike a push shot, but will cause the ball tostay straight or even draw!
