With the Medal Winners cup bringing the golfing season to a close, now is the perfect time to assess how you did compare to your goals for the season gone by. Did your handicap come down? Did you represent the club in a team match? Did you win a medal? Did you get your name in Gold Letters on our honours board? Hopefully lots of you achieved your goals this year, but it's time to set new goals for next season!
I worked with lots of golfers through last winter, and we were able to really help them achieve their targets. One of my students, managed to reduce their handicap by 8 shots, down to 11, represented the club in the Curry Cup, won 2 club competitions and managed to shoot 73 gross off a 14 handicap. It is fantastic to see hard work paying off.
If you didn't achieve your goals, what could you have done differently to get to your targets?
Here at the Colchester Golf Academy we would like to work with you towards your next year's goals. Winter is the perfect time to work on your game, and look to improve your technique ready for next season. We are able to provide all year round coaching, working on your ball striking, shot shaping, distance control, efficiency of strike, spin control on your woods and long irons and extra distance for next season.
Come to us, and set some targets with us, and we will get you on the road to getting you there.

This week at Colchester Golf Club,
Mark Joel took the Medal Winners Cup by just the one shot.
The medal winners cup is a fantastic event to win, as all the players have either been winners, or runner up in an event this golfing season.
Joel playing off 22 held off two players who were one shot behind on 68.
They were
Bill Eke (6) and
Mark Hills (15) who were placed second and third.
Following them home were three players who returned 69,
Paul Smith (12),
Phil Hayward (7) and
Steve Jennings (6).
Cassie Cunningham and
Louisa Storey representing Colchester Golf Club, had a great victory to progress to the final of the county's Hunter Foursomes.
Played on the neutral course of Thorndon Park,
Cunningham and
Storey were three down at the eleventh. They pulled slowly back to level the match on the 18th , finally sealing their victory on the 20th hole.
A very impressive victory, as the pair from Channels, who they beat, included the 14-year-old England international
Lily Humphreys who recently won the English U16 Girls Open Championship by six shots, nine under par and plays off plus one.
The final will be held at Channels Golf Club on the 16th October where they will meet the winning pair from Thorndon Park or Boyce Hill.
The ladies held a Medal, which was won with a nett 71, a score carded by both
Renate Clarke (28) and
Hayley Joel (27) with
Clarke getting the nod after a countback.
Third place on 72 nett was
Liz Bainbridge (31) with 28 handicapper,
Maureen Crosbie taking 4th spot from
Annie Johnston (14) and
Val Doubleday (26) after another countback.
