Richard Withnall is the Order of Merit winner…again!
Richard is now a 3 time winner of the event that is played over the course of the season. Each event has points given to each player that plays in the event, giving a total for the season, and finding the player with the most consistency throughout the 2016 schedule.
Coming into the last event, there were 4 possible winners.
Roger Wright was close behind in second, with
Martin Webb and
Matt Black the other 2 realistic golfers who could win the Order of Merit. With an 11th place finish in the Medal Winners Cup,
Richard gained enough points to win the order of merit series title yet again!
Louisa Storey and
Cassie Cunningham are in the final of the Hunter Foursomes this Sunday at Romford Golf Club at 1pm. This is a very prestigious final to be in, and we would love to see lots of support go down to cheer these 2 to victory. Both
Cassie and
Louisa have been at the club for many years, and we wish them the best of luck!
Dick Bokenham won Colchester Golf Club's Stableford last Sunday.
In a three way tie on 38 points it was
Bokenham who came out tops in the count back from
Mark Culley (12) and
Robert Svensson (15). It was
Bokenham's ability to limit his bogeys to shot holes which allowed him to get the points as he had two holes where he did not score at all. Both
Culley and
Svensson had solid rounds but that extra shot to give them first place eluded them.
John Dornan (7) and
Ian Parry (8) both returned 37 points to take fourth and fifth places.
On Saturday the club held the Hodson Trophy a team three ball competition where a junior joins a team of two full members. Always a popular event and keenly competed.
It was
Sam Jackson along with Club Captain
Vic Phomphrett and
Liz Lennox who recorded a credible 89 points to take first place. In second place with 87 points were
Charlie Allison playing with the Club's vice-captain
Stewart Ness and the ladies' captain
Sheila Dornan who took second place with 87 points.
On 86 points and in thirdly place were
Joe Jackson, Mike Withers and
Penny Allen.
The ladies held their Medal Winners Cup earlier in the week when
Patricia Walker took the honours with a nett of 71 from her 26 handicap.
Joan Cotterill (25) was placed second with 73 and
Margaret Dearnley third with 74 nett.
Four players returned nett 76 with
Claire Croger (24) placed fourth followed by
Cassie Cunningham, who had the lowest gross of the day,
Wendy Smith (23) and
Gill Crayston (25).
The Sure Test of a Correct Backswing The shape of a player's body, for a great backswing position, creates a
convex curve down the back to the hips, with the body curving slightly away from the target. This convex shape when the club is at the top of the backswing is common to all good golfers, and is in fact the result of a correct series of movements in the backswing.
Contrast it with the
concave body shape, the players body curves towards the target. This posture is the result of the incorrect body movement in the backswing. This
concave body shape when the club is at the top is perhaps the most common sight in golf, and is a sure sign of an incorrect action.
