Shallow your swing this winter!
As a coach, I would say that over 80% of golfers will swing the club too steep, rather than too shallow.
Swinging the club too steep on the backswing can be neutralised on the downswing, but it does make it extremely hard to hit the ball consistently and improve your game.
Problems with a steep golf swing:
- Lack of consistency of Strike
- Restriction in club head speed
- Encourages a slice " "Thinned" or "Fat" shots
- Low golf shots
- Out - to- In Swing Path
A shallower swing will produce:
What a shallower swing will encourage, is a much better shoulder turn, and the use of the body in the golf swing. All of this will increase the Clubhead speed, as well as the club travelling on the correct swing path.
Wendy Smith is ending her golfing year on a positive note. Scoring 38 points, in what is likely to be the last stableford of the year for ladies, she scored just enough to put herself clear of the chasing pack.
Smith whose handicap was 23 at the start of this competition, it is now 22, scored five pars that formed the backbone of her round and allowed her the flexibility to build a good score.
Renate Clarke, this year's ladies vice-captain, followed her in with a 37 to take second place and seven handicapper Mandy Rix took third place overall with a handicap equalling 36 points and the lowest gross of the day.
Three ladies returned 35 points and they were Beverley Parker (21), Penny Allen (33) and Janet Tebbutt (25).
In a 14 hole stableford run concurrently with the main competition it was Joy Bevan who took top spot with 27 points followed in by Sheila McCoig on 25 with Bridget Whitworth and Hannah Baker both on 24 points.
The men's winter leagues are now well underway but in a mid-week stableford Brian Clarke, playing off a handicap of ten, returned 39 points with Keith Hammond (18) some way off in second place turning in 33 points. John Powell (26) and Keith Appleton (11) were third and fourth both carding 31 points.
