The team comprising
Sheila Dornan, Janet Austin, Linda Freeman and
Liz Napier won the Ladies' Captain's Winter Competition hosted by
Jane Madge the Club's Ladies' Captain.
The format the competition is played in was described as a Waltz, where the number of scores from each team to count was 1, 2, 3 recurring. The winners put in an exceptional performance to score 63 points when 54 would have equalled a par score for the teams over the fourteen holes it was played.
The competition started with the promise of showers but when they did arrive they were interspaced with bright sunshine, which allowed the golf to live up to its promise. It was also pleasing to note that another comparatively new member,
Liz Napier, had added to the quality of the winning team.
Some five shots back and leading the fourteen teams of four chasing the winners were
Claire Hebden,
Marilyn Wood, Pip Macaulay and
Fiona Prentice who took second place.
Third place with 56 points were
Janet Wilson, Alison Cordran, Doreen Lee and
Roberta Bodsworth. Just one point behind them were two teams separated by countback and taking fourth place were
Beverley Parker, Madryn Abnett, Nerys Horrocks and
Gill Crayston with fifth spot going to
Liz Lennox, Philippa Deman, Jo Mager and
Pat Kettle.
Nearest the pins were won by
Annette Wigley on the eighth and
Bridget Whitworth on the sixteenth.
