A big welcome to 2017 from the Professional Shop. I hope you all had a fun festive period and you have all made goals for your golf in 2017!

Personally, Mark and I have set the target to have a better stroke average then 2016. Mark needs to improve his pitching to improve his stroke average, and personally I need to drive it better this year. 

I think when you look to set goals, you must look at your strengths were last year, and look to improve your weaker areas.

Golfers love to go to the range and hit fifty 7 irons, followed by twenty rescue clubs, five 3 woods and finishing with 20 drivers.

This year concentrate on the weak spots of the game. Dedicate yourself to a weak area, wedge it better, chip it better or get better out of bunkers. Write down the goals, and re-look in June to see if your goals are being met.


Weekly Challenge Match

New for 2017 - Take on your 2 Pro's! Each Week Mark and I will be taking on 2 members over 9 holes on the simulator. It will be played as Handicap better-ball Hambro Match. The team with the best result during the year will be taken for a rematch and a day out at a top venue.

The first match of the year was against Former Club Captain John Williams and partner Paul Bishop played over the back 9 at Kingsbarns.

In a closely fought match, the professionals came out 2 UP winners in the first match.

 

Rules - £20 per person to play in the match, if you are victorious then you get your money back! Best score of the year will receive a day out with the Pro's at a Top Venue.

On the 27th of December the club held a 3 clubs and a putter event here at the club. It was a fantastically supported event organised by David Blackmore.

In 4th Position was Club Captain Stewart Ness, Colin Williams, Ben Williams and Joe Williams. 3rd Place went to the Junior Team of Jacob Daniels, Joe Jackson, Sam Jackson with dad Paul Jackson. In second place was Andy Smith, Steve Dack, Malcolm Easton and Steve Sheffield. 

The winners receiving £40 vouchers each were 

Mike Berry with an impressive 40 points won the annual Swindlers Christmas Stableford at Colchester Golf Club. Berry, playing off the maximum handicap allowed of eighteen, put together a strong back nine of 23 points helping him pull away from the chasing pack lead by John Waterson (8) who returned 39.

Played on a bright and mild day the Wednesday before Christmas, this competition followed by lunch is now into its eleventh year, organized once again by Tim Rogers. Supported by 43 regular players in the Club's Monday and Friday Roll-Ups its place in the Club's Calendar is now well established.

Waterson failing by just one shot to take the overall prize did take first spot in the 0-11 handicap category with Lee Smith (9) taking second from Adrian Girling (9) after a countback which also included Ian Parry (8), all three returning 37 points.

Les Daughtrey (16) with 38 points took third place overall and first in the 12-18 handicap category with Bernard Hart (16) in second on 36 points. In third place in this category was Steve Moore (12) with 35 points.

Norman Ryan received the prize for the best return on par threes courtesy of a birdie on the 13th hole which put him level par overall.
