Members Andy Smith and Graeme Baxter played in the AM/AM event, and finished a fantastic 2nd with 40 points and just one shot off victory.

Competition news

Colchester Golf Club's Winter League has now progressed to the quarterfinal with the preliminary round of the knockout stages having been completed.

The surprise of the round undoubtedly was the 6&5 defeat of the James', with Rob and Cai James losing out big time to Rob Svensson and Ralph Charles. The James' did not play badly by any means but were just taken out by two players in top form. Svensson and Charles now take on Lewis and Charlie Barber who beat Miles and Trevor Hooton in their preliminary round.

The current holders, Joe and Ben Williams had what appeared to be a comfortable win over Tim Rogers and Dick Bokenham. Tim Rogers summed up the match when he said "No complaints, they were just better golfers."

Keith Newnham and Lionel Keightley had a 4&3 win over Paul Jackson and Paul Smith. Two two matches finished with a score of 3&2 and are now drawn to play each other. They are Ian Parry and Russell Storey who got the better of Rob Tucker and Richard Watts and Adam Harper and Tony Jordan who took out Andrew Smith and Steve Dack.

The final match at the quarterfinal stage will be between Phil Hayward and Alan Hyde who beat Steve Sharman and Gary Driver and they will play Jeff Johnson and Mike O'Sullivan who put out Martin Halls and Danny Simons.

The ladies played another 14 hole stableford when Sheila Dornan (28) recorded 30 points to take the honours. She was followed in by Julie Dicks (13) with 26 points and Annie Johnston (14) who had 25 points.

Janet Wilson (36) and Joan Cotterill (25) both returned 23 points to complete the top places.

Tour news

GolfSixes

Aiming for a younger demographic

The European Tour have introduced some innovative ideas for the season ahead. The World Super 6 combined 54 holes of stroke play with a final-day knockout, whilst GolfSixes, which takes place later in the year, sees two-man teams battle it out over six holes in a group stage, before progressing to a final-day knockout.
