Thank you for responding
If you missed it, the R&A are undertaking a Rules modernisation initiative where they're aiming to make the Rules easier to understand, trying to address some of the game's current problems, such as speed of play, and ensure they fit the needs of today's game.
We gave you the opportunity to have your say on some of these changes in a recent survey, and we've now gone through your answers and there are some interesting outcomes. The vast majority of you agreed with most of the proposed changes, and it's easy to see why, but there was one particular change which had you split:
A golfer is no longer required to drop the ball from shoulder height; just one inch above the ground is fine
Is there any issue with the current ruling on dropping a ball from shoulder height? Will this quicken the speed of play? It's up for debate, and that's exactly what our survey was designed for. Thank you to everyone who responded and if you want to discuss any of the proposed changes further, come and speak to us in-store.

Round up
Julie Dicks was the winner of the ladies medal at Colchester Golf Club. Playing off her 13 handicap she was one of three competitors to return nett 77s coming out in front after the countback.
Starting off with a par on the first,
Dicks put herself in a good position after the front nine. Her back nine was better despite a major blip on the par five eleventh but was still strong enough to push back her fellow competitors.
Returning the same nett 77 score were
Annie Johnston (14) and
Philippa Deman (9).
Johnston losing out with a triple on the 14th and
Deman after a strong front nine had four pars on the back nine but matched them with doubles.
Hayley Joel (29) had a nett 79 with three players returning nett 80s,
Nerys Horrocks (22),
Heather Dennis (19) and
Jill Baker (36).
With soft underfoot conditions and little run on the fairways the course was playing long for the ladies, but they still supported the competition well with over 50 entering the competition. The good news is as we move into the spring all the works on the course are starting to bear fruit and it is looking good for 2017.
There was a mid-week stableford where
Michael Berry (19) piped
Lewis Barber (5) after a countback, with
Steve Dack (14) claiming third spot with 34 points.
Colchester's Jubilee Cup team started off their 2017 campaign with a good win over Five Lakes on the Braiswick Course.
The Jubilee Cup is an inter-club competition for mid and high handicappers with twelve and above handicappers playing six singles and the eighteen and above handicappers playing three four-ball matches.
Colchester got off to a good start in the singles with
Simon Rippingale leading the way out and finishing his match against
Peter Dunnet on the fifteenth with a 4&3 win. The next point came from the pairing of
Ian Wigston and
Paul Harrison with a 3&2 win over
Steve and
Trevor Harris.
Robin Tucker and
Stuart Reed who go the better of
Doug Wood and
Graham Sinfield with another 3&2 win closely followed them home.
The only match to go down the 18th was the pairing of
Martin Halls and
Richard Shackell against
Les Powell and
Lee Stafford and the match was halved.
By this time all the singles had finished with four wins one half and a loss giving Colchester a comfortable 7&2 win. Their next match is away to Thorpe Hall on the 22nd April.
