David Brown captured Colchester Golf Club's Veterans Cup with a sizzling 40-point return.
Brown, paying off 16 handicap, fired 20 points on the front nine and repeated the trick on the closing half - helped by a birdie two at the 13th.
His only blemish was a double bogey six at the 11th but pars and bogies at the remaining 16 holes saw him to a one-shot victory over David Latta and a two-shot handicap reduction.
Latta, 13, had a tasty 21 points from the front nine but bogies on seven of the last eight holes saw him squeezed out. In third place came Graham Griffiths, 14, who amassed 37 points with Robert Potter, 16, fourth on 35 points ahead of Tim Rogers, 10, Peter Robinson, 13, Dave Humberstone, 13, Alan Hyde, 6, and Kevin Brett, 5, who all had 34.
The Ladies Spring Meeting was won by Claire Croger, playing off 21, who mustered a fine 39 points to edge out Marilyn Wilson, 18, and Linda Freeman, 19, on countback. Croger had 21 points on the back nine with Wilson and Freeman each returning 18. Val Doubleday, off 26, was fourth on 38 points with Judith Robertson, 16, fifth on 37.
The Braiswick course hosted the Essex ladies County Championship over three days with senior and junior categories. Congratulations go to Faye Trigg of Clacton Golf Club who is now the new Essex Ladies Champion and Maria Williams who secured the County Senior Champion title.
Well done to Colchester's Louisa Storey who came third in the 36 hole stroke play with a gross score 157 and made it through to the semi-finals on the final day where she fought against Katy Yates in the matchplay.
