Competition news

Dave Blackmore and Helen Tartellin returned an imposing 43 points to win the Dick Proctor Trophy last Saturday at Colchester Golf Club.

Their better ball score was enough to win the competition from three pairings all on 42 points. Steve Parlett and Guy Lennox were placed second after the countback with Richard Watts and Michael Mayes taking third spot and Iain Cruickshank and Shaun Holmes in fourth.

Adam Harper won the putting competition to win the Dick Proctor Putter.

On Sunday's Am-Am competition Andy Smith, Mike Blakebrough and Chris Carlin came home with a winning 86 points. Hard on their heels with 85 points were Michael Mayes and Richard Watts joined by Robin Tucker and taking second place.

Ian Parry, John Waterson and David Humberstone were third with 84 points with John Dornan, Mike Withers and Ian Devenish returned 80 to take fourth.

The Club held a mixed nine-hole competition, players play off half their handicap and are assumed eighteen points on the back nine holes, where Ian Coleman (6) returned 37 points to take top spot followed in by Lewis Barber (3) on 36. In third place was Jill Baker (18) with 35 points.

Colchester's Club teams had a good week with the Thornton Cup Plate being held. Formatted with five home games and five away games Colchester beat Stableford Abbots comfortably 7½ to 2½. With the home games providing a clean sweep to Colchester and the away group providing the balance Colchester now play The Warren in the Quarter Final.

Also moving on to the Quarter Final stages were the Seniors who had a tough home match against Nazeing. With a final score of six to five it was close. An outstanding win by Dick Bokenham of 8&7, along with Stuart Ness's 5&4 and Dave Humberstone's 6&4 sealed the match and complimented by the earlier wins of Tom Rothery and Peter Anderson.

John Waterson and Jim Wilkinson contributed halves to make the much-needed six points.

The junior section progressed into the last 32 of the Royal British Legion Junior Golf Challenge beating Beadlow Manor (Bedfordshire) away by four holes, Cai James and Charley Hatley, along with Louisa Storey and Max Maynard both beating opponents two up.

The Junior Youth Shield (handicap) had a good win away at Burnham-on-Crouch by 3&2. Wins provided by Charlie Allison, Max Day and Oliver Baker.

The ladies Silver Shield team is having a tough time of it this year losing their second match against Stockbrook Manor.
