Sunrise Stableford Ashley Yates, playing off eighteen, scored 42 points to win the Sunrise Stableford. Starting too early in the morning for most, there were 29 competitors earning their early morning breakfasts. Yates was three points clear of the rest of the field with Ben Williams (5) leading the chasing pack with 39 points and securing second spot. Dave Blackmore (12) took third on 38 points with Chris Scott (20) and Richard Hayes (11) both returning 37.
Saturday’s Walk-on-Stableford In Saturday’s Walk-on-Stableford Chris Monk (11) just beat Mark Westall (13) after a countback. Simon Hutton (9) and Edward Mason also had to be separated by a countback with Jon Potterton taking fifth on his own with 34.
Vets Stableford In the Vets Stableford it was Bob Tebby (17) who romped home with 40 points. His score put him three clear of Norman Sibbons (21) 37 and there were three sharing 36 points, Michael Walsh (20) Malcolm Buy (18) and Colin Terry (12).
Youth Shield Team The scratch Youth Shield team cantered home in a match against Colne Valley. With better all-round handicaps they had an easy victory. It was not the same with the Curry Cup team away to Stoke-By-Nayland. Halving the morning’s foursomes three matches each, the afternoon got off to a great start for Colchester with Andy Smith, Dan Nicholls and John Redden all taking points in the first three games out, but with Dominic Bibby and David Barnes getting the only points from the next nine matches the tie went the way of the home team, the final score being 10½ to 7½. |
