Ladies Greensomes Shelley Persent and Romany Foster were the winners in Colchester Golf Club’s Ladies’ Greensomes held at the Braiswick club. Greensomes is a competition where both players drive from the tee on each hole, they then select their preferred ball and play alternate shots from there. Handicaps are calculated by adding 40% of the higher handicap to 60% of the lower one of the two players. Sharing their final score of 39 points with Annie Johnston and Pat Kettle who were playing off a combined calculated handicap of 16, the Persent/Foster pairing turned on 20 points, from their handicap of twenty, lagging two points behind. A good finish giving a stronger back nine of 19 points saw the Persent/Foster duo claim the honours after the countback.
Winter Golf With the club now settling into its winter golf routine it is only the ladies playing regular competitive competitions. The men are now deeply into the seven qualifying matches of the Winter Leagues with only the Turkey Trot likely to interrupt this routine prior to the Leagues’ play-by date in late January. Third spot in the Ladies’ Greensomes was secured by their new captain Maureen Devenish and her partner Judith Robertson. The pair with a calculated handicap of 16 scored a handicap equalling 36 points. Fourth place went to Nesta James and Gill Minns (18) on 35 points with Vicky Frost and Trish Wilson (11) taking fifth place. In total 54 ladies took part in the competition. |
