Vets Stableford David Croger sealed a great win in the John Champ Christmas Vets Stableford at Colchester Golf Club. Thirteen handicapper Croger returned 39 points to put him two shots clear of the rest of the field which was lead in on 37 points by Tim Rogers (12). Sharing Roger’s score and losing out after the countback were Peter Robinson (11) and Bill Eke (5). The competition, which was inaugurated by John Champ the long-time Secretary and sage of the section, is the Vets’ final golfing competition of the year and attracted a good sized field of 68 players on a bright day with the course playing long after the recent rain. Croger’s winning round was the model of consistency spoiled only by double bogies on the 9th and the 11th. A birdie two on the 16th added a little spring to his step and from then on he bogeyed-in to put himself comfortably ahead of the chasing pack. Andrew Crayston (26) along with John Dornan (6) and David Withnall (24) all returned 36 points to take the minor placings. Tim Rogers and the Club Captain, Jim Wilkinson picked up the nearest the pin prizes on the 8th and 16th. After the competition the Vets enjoyed a Christmas Lunch along with the prize-giving.
Cancelled due to Rain The ladies are not having the best of luck with their competitions as following last week’s competition which was cancelled by heavy rain, this week’s was abandoned because of fog. Next week's Cakewalk is at least predicted to be played in good weather. |
