Three Clubs and a Putter competition
Andy Sparrow and Mike Lampon put themselves one shot ahead of the field to win Colchester Golf club’s Three Clubs and a Putter competition.
Greensomes Squeezed in between Christmas and the New Year the competition was played as a Greensomes, where each of the pairs tee off and the best ball is then chosen followed by the pair then playing alternate shots. Sparrow playing off eleven and Lampon off twenty-three scored 37 points which put them just one shot ahead of two chasing pairs. The second place, after a countback, was awarded to John Potterton (12) and Peter Clarke (20). Third, losing out in the countback, were John Dornan (6) and Kevin Prince (15). Twenty-six pairs dragged themselves from the festivities to play in this every popular competition, organized by the Chairman of Golf, Dave Blackmore.
Junior Competitions The juniors at the club were out in force over the holidays playing two competitions. In their Christmas Stableford Edward Mason (13) cracked in a 35 pointer to leap ahead of two handicapper Josh Coleman who returned 32 with Charlie Allison (13) returning 31. In the Junior End of Year Trophy Josh Coleman showed his true colours with 37 points. Coleman however only just crept ahead of fellow two handicapper Max Maynard who returned a handicap equalling 36 points, Third spot was only decided after a three-way countback with Oliver Allison (5) getting the nod over Arian Masud (6) and Joe Jackson also playing off six. |
