The best round of the day however went to second placed Tom Neale (2). Having turned at three under par gross, he held this number ‘till the 17th when a bogey, double bogey finish knocked him back to a gross level par finish giving him a nett 68. All these scores were made on an inhospitable day with a cold northerly wind and little to suggest spring is now here. Long-time leader Jamie Harris (11) took third place on 69 nett with Lewis Barber (4), Joseph Jackson (5), Mark Brown (8), Arian Masud (6), Christos Ryan (5) and Steve Jennings (5) all returning 70s. Oli Baker, the son of the Club professional Mark, got one over his father with his win as during his time as an amateur at the Club he never won this prized trophy nor indeed did his grandfather Alan, another well know member and prolific winner. Earlier in the week the Ladies played for their Centenary Medals with Trish Wilson claiming the scratch prize with an 86 and Carol Irvine (31) taking the handicap prize with a nett 75. Runner up in the scratch competition was Philippa Deman with an 88 and in the handicap competition Hannah Butcher and Catherine Chick (19) both returned 76. In an 18 hole Par competition Sheila Dornan came out tops after a countback with a score of minus one. Dornan playing off 24 shared this score with Fiona Rose (27), Julie Nieuwenhuis (38) and Marilyn Free (30). Duncan Smith continued his road to handicap respectability with a win in a Vets Stableford. Returning a 37 he topped the competitors with Davis Watts (17) on 35, and Colin Terry and Ray Seager (20) both on 33. |
