Coronation Cup Joshua Eley with nett rounds of 67 and 66 swept away all opposition in Colchester Golf Club’s Coronation Cup. First presented in 1937 to commemorate the Coronation of George VI and the opening of the 18 hole course this competition is played over 36 holes. Eley, playing off 21 handicap, never gave anyone else a look in. his first round put him on top of the leader-board and with an even better second round he was never headed. After the first round Mark Brown (8) had shared the lead with Eley, both on 67 nett, but he fell off the hot pace in the second but still returned a credible 69 to secure second spot by a two shot margin. Third place was Oliver Baker (8) with 68 and 70 nett and tied with him was Bill Eke (4) both with 138 totals The best gross score in the competition went to Tom Neale. Neale playing off a handicap of one had two gross 71s, with a total of five birdies. Cai James (2) with gross scores of 73 and an improved 72 was three shots back on a total of 145.. |
