The final of the Foursomes Cup saw Chris Doyle and Andrew Patrick playing Steve Jennings and Glenn Clark. Despite Clark and Jennings giving eight shots they quickly went two up but the Doyle and Patrick pairing toughed it out and the match was all square after ten holes. Using their shots on the next two holes Doyle and Patrick established a lead that they never lost. The final score being 4&3 to record, surprisingly, Doyle’s first boarded win. The ladies have completed their 60 plus Bowl with an impressive 44 points from seventeen handicapper Annie Johnston sweeping to victory. Johnston’s round contained just two double bogeys tempered by a birdie on the sixth and put her four ahead of nineteen-handicapper Sheena Nunny’s 40 points, a round which contained two birdies. Trish Wilson (7) took third spot on 39 points. Gilly Cullen (25) surprised everyone including herself when she recorded 47 points from her 25 handicap in a ladies non-qualifying stableford. Her secret? A four over par front nine totalling 27 points followed by a steady 20 points on the back, which included a blob! The ever improving Liza Free returned 43 points from her 43 handicap and six ladies all returned 39 points to make a crowded podium. They were Katie Cooper (20), Liz Lennox (20), Cathy Burchell (12), Patricia Walker (25), Janet Tebbutt (27) and Chris Clarke (26). Equally imposing scores were returned by Tim Rogers (10), Richard Pelle (25) and David Watts (16) in the Vets Stableford. All three carding 40 points with Rogers getting the nod after the countback. The Vets friendlies are now drawing to a close. The section are just keeping their heads above the water with their recent win over The Warren taking their total wins to eleven against ten losses with two halved. |
