Competition news

Team Stableford

Colchester Golf Club’s ladies’ captain Janet Austin held a one-off team Stableford competition over fourteen holes, with three ladies to a team and the best two scores on each hole to count.

Romping home with fifty-seven points were the team of Wendy Smith, Sheena Nunny and Katie Cooper.

Their score putting them two points clear of three teams all registering fifty-five points.

After the countback it was the team of Sue Patrick, Jasmine Schwier and Jenny Jardine who were able to claim second spot and bragging rights from Philippa Deman, Heather Denis and Linda Freeman who were placed third. Losing out and placed a more than credible fourth spot from over twenty teams competing were Gill Crayston, Marilyn Wood and Gilly Cullen.

Competition Winners

Janet Austin also took the opportunity to present trophies to the various winners with Romany Foster being presented with the Ilford Bowl, Carol Irvine with the Bogey Winners’ Cup and Jasmine Schwier with the Poppy Appeal Classic.

From the two main competition entries held last week for the Poppy Appeal the club was able to donate a total of £645.

Our survey says...

A recent survey indicated some interesting statistics about club golfers in the UK, so we thought we'd share a few of them with you now. Drum roll, please….

Yep, nearly three-quarters of club golfers use a Distance Measuring Device (such as a GPS watch or laser) whilst 1-in-5 trust your own judgment and feel when it comes to how far you have left to the green.

Pretty interesting stats but ones that highlight how important it is that you know how far you hit the ball with every club in the bag. All of this adds up to smarter course management and, in the long term, fewer strokes (we hope!). Interested? Send us a message via the link below.
