Whilst team success in County competitions was out of reach, individual talent is coming through the section and to underline this Ed Mason won the Essex Schools Under-Fourteen Boys Championship along with the County Order-Of-Merit Under-14 (Div. 2) boys. Alanna Mathews showed that her talent was not to be ignored by taking first place in the Under-14 Girls Division. Ollie Baker took fourth place in the Under- 14 (Div 1) whilst Theo Baker at fifteen-years-old, came third in the Under-18 Division! Theo also added the Romford Junior Open to his quiver. Internally Arian Masud, now playing off three, claimed the Junior Club Championship with two rounds totalling 140, two shots better than the winner of the Club Championship. To this win, Masud added the Centenary Medal and the Remembrance Stableford. Naturally, the Baker Boys were to the fore. From the main Club competitions, Theo won the Elmstead Cup and the Millennium Trophy and Ollie carried away the Cooper Bland Cup. In junior competitions, Theo did a double with the Junior Elmstead and Ollie won the St.Patrick’s Day Stableford, plus the Autumn Stableford. As if that was not enough he secured the Most Improved Golfer of 2019 and not surprisingly the Junior Order-of-Merit title. Guy Haines was represented with the Spring Trophy and, along with his father Richard, he won the Barnes Cup for the second time in three years. Haines also won the Junior Captain’s Day. Another talented pair of brothers are Charlie and Ollie Allison who divide their time between cricket and golf, managing to excel in each. Ollie won the Valentine‘s Stableford whilst brother Charlie won the Halloween Stableford and the Club’s Junior Open. Cody Zhou was able to pocket the Summer Sizzler Series and the End of Year Trophy was won by Ed Mason. As a footnote the Professionals at the Club run six-week Academy Courses, which are open to all, and the last few spots for the first course starting on April 5th are still available. Anyone, girls or boys, interested should contact the club on Colchester 853396. |
