This week was a busy week at Colchester GolfClub, with a number of flagship trophiesbeing competed for.
Congratulations go to Jim Wilkinson on defeatingShelley Persent in the final of the BraiswickCup. In a very tight close game, Jim came outvictorious 2&1 after holing a nice putt forvictory on 17.
Richard Withnall became the Victory Cup championwith a win over seven time club champion BrendanBooth. Again , it was a close matchthat finished with only one hole in the match.Richard winning 1 up on 18.
Tony Jordan and Maureen Crosbie were the winnersof the mixed foursomes trophy the Jubilee Cup.They defeated Liz and Paul Harrison in thefinal. Congratulations to the pair.
Ian McLean Putter Final
The Ian Mclean Putter final was also played thisweek. This event is the scratch knockout eventfrom the top 8 of the Club Championship. In theSemi Finals, scratch handicapper Jason Nichollstook on Alan Macnaught, and Jacob Farson took onJohn Logan. Jason and Jacob both were victorioussetting up the final played on Tuesday evening.
Scratch handicapper Jason, showed his experienceand class with solid golf. Early birdies on 2and 3 put him in control, and a further one at 8took him to 3 up. Farson couldn't claw him back,and the match ended up 4&3.
Junior Club Championships
Cai James is the 2015 Junior Club Champion aftera solid afternoon score of 76 gave him victoryover Harry Hills by 3 shots. Dan Nicholls shot afantastic gross 76 (Nett 68) in the morninground to lead the field by 3 shots from HarryHills. Cai however battled valiantly, andfrom six shots behind, played the back 9fantastically well to claim victory and get hishands on the Club Championship for the firsttime.
Nico Barnes was the winner of the Mini JuniorChampionship on Sunday evening. The championshipwas played over 6 holes, off forward tee's. 10year old Nico started with 4 pars in his first 5holes, and posted a 4 over par score. This wasmatched by 11 year old member James Wright. Aplayoff decided the winner, with Nico safely onthe green in regulation and 2 putting for hispar for victory.
Professionals Mark Baker and Chris Cutchie thisweek competed in the Weston Homes East RegionChampionship at Royal Cromer in Norfolk. With110 professionals competing over two days, Chrisled the field with a (-3 ) 69 after the firstround, leading Ian Ellis and Crue Elliott by asingle shot.
After errors at 6 and 7 Chris fell two behind,but with two birdies coming home, he gamehimself a chance at victory.
GlenPortelli from Verulum shot a -3 total for the 2rounds, and Chris couldn't make birdie putts at16 and 17 to close the gap, finishing in 2ndplace on his own.
Royal Cromer was in quite magnificent condition,and we would certainly recommend a trip up therefor a golfing weekend. Chris is featured on thePGA East Region Youtube site during his round.

Member Peter Roberts was in the swing studioearlier this week, and we were working ongetting up his clubhead speed. After working onrelease and timing, we increased the club headspeed by more than 10mph, and in turn increasinghis carry distance by over 12 yards with his 7iron.
SwingStudio
There has been a fantastic response from themembership with the swing studio. It has beenextremely busy and popular, with lessons,gappings and practice times all being taken upfor last week.
The Foresight swing studio is really helping todevelop our members games, and gives a fantasticinsight to making sure that players areimproving and working on the correct things.
